Trick or Treat?

IP isn't scared of much. He ran up to creepy creatures in the night and took their candy with no problem. Grandma and I walked the neighborhood with our next door neighbor's grandson (Batman) and his parents. Dad stayed home and passed out glow-stick bracelets, plastic spiders and oh yes... candy! Mr. Ken (skeleton guy in the black shirt) was is fine form again and turned his front yard into a graveyard with a fog machine and creepy music. We came home after about a hour of trick or treating, so IP could pass out candy. He enjoys this almost as much as collecting candy. Then, we sat down to enjoy a few treats of our own with a nice cup of milk.

Springfield, MA

Had my first bowl of Chow-dah from room service last night. While Josh was working, I visited the museum quadrangle of Springfield. Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) was from Springfield and the museum has a memorial on site. Tonight, we ate a rack of lamb and paprika schnitzel at the Student Prince. Yummmm! Here are a few photos.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch

Sunday, Grandma suggested a road trip, so we loaded the car with snacks and drove the scenic route through the hill country to Natural Bridge just north of San Antonio. We drove into the ranch at 5 mph. The animals gathered very close to the road, but were definitely overfed and not interested in our food pellets. Needless to say, an ostrich took a few pieces from IP's hand and he was ecstatic! It was worth the drive to see them up close and in their natural habitat.

The Scarecrow and Mrs. Poage

Saturday, Grandma and I put together IP's Halloween costume. He loved it! Because he had such a late nap, I said he could stay up a little later and go for a night walk. The Scarecrow and Mrs. Poage explored Sun City at night with our flashlight and glow-stick necklaces. We found a millipede, a big garden spider and several black crickets.

Our Friend Mister Moth

Mister Moth was slowing down on Thursday and IP took great care of him in his final days. To protect the moth from birds, IP made a home for him inside our outdoor terracota pumpkin and provided fresh grass and water. Mister Moth passed away Sunday and IP took it rather well. "He died and went to moth heaven. Where are his bones?" - IP

Crowe's Nest Farm

IP's pre-school class and the kindergarten class went on a field trip to Crowe's Nest Farm on Tuesday. I went along in my new capacity as the PreK 3-4 Parent Representative (aka Homeroom Mom). Other parents came along too. A little girl from Hyde Park Baptist decided to "chat up" IP at the turtle display. During the cow milking demonstration, IP thought the cow was "peeing." He looked totally disgusted when we told him it was milk. Poor city boy. (Look at IP's expression while watching the milking in the group photo above.) We went on a hay ride and viewed lots of animals including longhorns, ostriches, a baby Shetland pony, smelly javelena pigs, a bobcat and enormous hogs.
